This module focuses on infections and the causes of infections. Patients with the symptoms of infection present daily at pharmacy counters. Many infections can be treated with Over The Counter (OTC) solutions or indeed will be managed with OTC products. This module is part 1 of 2 and looks at what causes infections.

The aim of the course is to provide all pharmacy staff and associated healthcare professionals with information relating to Coronavirus COVID-19 infection and what advice should be offered to staff and patients in a pharmacy setting. This course will focus on the disease, rather than infection rates, so it is not date sensitive.

This course will be reviewed and updated each week.

Since the Pharmacy Act of 2007, community pharmacies are licensed healthcare facilities.   As such, pharmacies are frequented by vulnerable patients who may carry infection, or be at high risk of contracting an infection.   We have a duty of care to ourselves, our colleagues, our customers and patients to be aware of the potential ways infection can be transmitted and to act in a way that minimises that risk.
